When the players, coaches and staff of the Yellow Jackets baseball team heard about a fan afflicted with cerebral palsy, they decided to give him an inside game day experience.
That fan, 16-year-old Brandon Wimpey, who formerly played youth baseball, has long admired the Georgia Tech program. So it was a dream come true when the Jackets invited Wimpey to hang out with the team and then watch a game.
“This is a huge deal. For somebody who loves sports as much as he does, who played it but has it taken away, and to see what these guys get to do and enjoy it . . . this is a big moment for him,” said Kimberly Wimpey, Brandon’s mother. “I know he will remember it. He remembers a lot of big things that have happened because not that many good things happen to him.”
As Wimpey watched with his family from a suite at Russ Chandler Stadium, the Jackets claimed an 8-4 win over Illinois-Chicago.
