Weekly News Roundup (Feb. 10-15, 2012)

• The New York Times takes a walk on the Atlanta BeltLine, which was conceived in 1999 in a graduate thesis by Ryan Gravel, Arch 95, M Arch/CP 99. Gravel recently shared his thoughts on Atlanta’s transportation future with the Alumni Magazine for our “At Issue” feature. [New York Times]

• The Times also recently profiled Simon, a humanoid robot being developed at Tech—which readers of the Alumni Magazine will recognize from our May 2012 issue. [New York Times]

• Tech’s campus grounds are hailed as a “living laboratory of sustainability” in the cover story from the latest issue of Sustainability Journal, which features a nice illustration of the Eco-Commons. [liebertpub.com]

• USA Today spoke to Georgia Tech vice president Stephen Fleming (pictured above) and mentioned the Advanced Technology Development Center in a piece on Atlanta’s tech startup community. [USAToday]

Tech earned some Grammy cred as the album Life and Breath: Choral Works by Rene Clausen won two awards last Sunday night. [Kansas City Star]

• Julian Adams, M Arch 98, will soon be seen alongside Ed Harris and David Duchovny in the film Phantom, which premiers in 4,000 theaters nationwide March 1. Adams also produced the film. [Strongbow Pictures]
