Brad Edwards, IE 06, MS Stat 07, needs more than 500 Georgia Tech football tickets.
But the super-fanatic alumnus isn’t trying to get a (huge) jump on the 2012-2013 season—he’s seeking tokens from games gone by. Long gone, in fact.
Edwards is looking to fill out his (possibly unparalleled) collection of stubs from Yellow Jackets games, which currently covers 650 clashes dating back to 1921.
“Right now I am only missing 45 tickets dating back to 1980, 68 tickets dating back to 1970 and 96 tickets dating back to 1960,” says Edwards. “So most of the more than 500 missing tickets come from 1959 and prior.”
All are posted online at georgiatechticketstubs.com, where you can browse by year or opponent. There are regular tickets, student tickets, press passes and other specialized stubs, some accompanied by a writeup of the action on the field.
It’s interesting to see how design changes over the decades, especially the late-50s switch from realistic illustrations of players to cartoons of a yellowjacket doing all manner of rowdy things, such as deflating a football and manning a steamroller. There’s also a colorful collection of bowl game tickets.
“I imagine that at some point I will donate at least a portion of the collection to the Georgia Tech Library,” says Edwards, who also noted that he comes from “a big-time Tech family” dating back to the early 1900s, when his grandfather played baseball at the Institute for one season. More than 100 tickets come from games Edwards has attended since 1998.
