Ferst Center Announces 2013-14 Season

Georgia Tech’s Ferst Center for the Arts has announced its 2013-14 season, with performances on the way in September and October from gravity-defying modern dancers, a movie-soundtracking gypsy jazz ensemble and more. Diavolo
Fri., Sept. 20 at 8 p.m.
Tickets: $39, $49, Special Children’s Price $22
Diavolo (pictured above) takes dance, daring and athletics to the extreme. The dynamic company returns with Fluid Infinities, the next installment of the work they performed at the Ferst Center in 2010, and with Transit Space, a kinetic new piece inspired by the thrilling movement of skateboarding that uses ramps and half-pipes as set pieces.

Arturo Sandoval
Fri., Oct. 4 at 8 p.m.

Vivacious, talented and charismatic, Arturo Sandoval has traveled the world with his blend of infectious, mind-blowing jazz, winning Grammy, Billboard and Emmy awards. Born in Cuba in 1949, Sandoval is a protégé of jazz master Dizzy Gillespie and has evolved into one of the world’s most acknowledged guardians of jazz trumpet and flugelhorn. Plus: Jazz Connect! Steven Lin
Fri., Oct. 11 at 8 p.m.
Tickets: $25 (Seating on stage)
Steven Lin, an immediately engaging and imaginative young Taiwanese American pianist, moves with ease between concertos, recitals and chamber music. The winner of several prestigious piano competitions including the William Kapell International Competition and the Juilliard School’s Gina Bachauer Piano Competition, he made his debut with the New York Philharmonic at age 13. An Atlanta Premiere.

The Hot Club of San Francisco
Fri., Oct. 18 at 8 p.m.

The great gypsy jazz ensemble presents Cinema Vivant, an evening of vintage silent films accompanied by live gypsy swing music. The music of Django Reinhardt and 1920s Paris will highlight three classic short films: The Cameraman’s Revenge and The Mascot by Ladislaw Starewicz, and There It Is by Charley Bowers.
